Bio

Andy Allen is a woodwind artist, composer and educator based out of western MA. His work is often hard to categorize, blending elements of free jazz, art rock, and avant-garde music. Andy’s compositions are dense and challenging, with his main writing outlet being the art rock band Creative Healing. Andy was a founding member of the band Guerilla Toss (2010-2012) and in those early years, he composed instrumental skronk-rock for that project.

As an improviser, Andy frequently collaborates with many unique and forward thinking artists such as Mia Friedman, Arkm Foam, Mickey O’Hara, Neil Cloaca Young, Donald Warner Shaw III, Ruth Garbus, Wendy Eisenberg, Nat Baldwin, Adam Bosse, Andy Kivela, and Andy Crespo. Mr. Allen can usually be found wielding some type of woodwind instrument, though he can also be heard using drum machines, cassette players and effects pedals, like in the band Hollow Deck, a unique collaboration with Fiddle/Banjo/Vocal artist Mia Friedman.

Andy has performed at several highly regarded venues including The Stone and National Sawdust in NYC, the Flynn Theatre in VT and Brighton Music Hall in Boston. Current and ongoing bands include Hollow Deck, Creative Healing, Gloyd, Proprietary Blend, and 23 Ensemble.
